Nearly ten lakh people apply every year for the Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC. Out of them, only a few hundred get listed in the final list and only one lucky person becomes the topper. Strategy of AIR 1 2020
Shubham Kumar secured AIR 1 in the UPSC 2020, and he is from Bihar. He is a civil engineer who graduated from IIT Bombay and his optional subject was Anthropology. He topped UPSC 2020 in his third attempt. According to him, he was able to score high because of the Anthropology optional. Strategy of AIR 1 2019
Pradeep Singh topped UPSC 2019 in his fourth attempt. He had done his graduation in Computer Science Engineering. His optional subject was Public Administration. He was working as an Income Tax Inspector when he attempted the exam for the fourth time, but still managed to top the exam. He emphasised the importance of preparing current affairs at both Prelims and Mains level. He also focussed on completing the fixed or planned syllabus every day. He also says that dedication and consistency are the two most important factors to clear this hard exam.

Strategy of AIR 1 2018
Kanishak Kataria secured All India Rank 1 in UPSC 2018 in the very first attempt. Only a very few like him are lucky enough to secure Rank 1 in the first attempt. His optional subject was Mathematics, and he pursued B. Tech Computer Science & Engineering during his graduation. He had scored a total of 1121 marks (including Mains and Personality Test). He had allocated 13-14 hours a day to prepare for the civil services exam. He strongly recommended practising mock tests and going through the previous year papers to get an idea of the exam.

Strategy of AIR 1 2017
Anudeep Durishetty secured top rank in UPSC 2017 in his fifth attempt. He completed his B. Tech from BITS Pilani, Rajasthan in 2011. His optional subject was Anthropology. After completing his graduation, he joined Google and worked as a software engineer. He explained that he did take any formal coaching and did most of his preparation from online resources. His weekends were entirely dedicated to preparing for UPSC, and he says that it is not an easy task to prepare for the UPSC exam being a working professional. For that, one needs to be motivated, remain positive and be full of energy.
